NEW YORK – New York Governor Kathy Hochul issued a state disaster emergency late Friday night in response to the state's increasing monkeypox cases.

Hochul stated in a statement, "I am declaring a State Disaster Emergency to boost our robust continuing efforts to combat this outbreak."

According to state data, New York has the highest incidence of monkeypox transmission in the country, with 1,383 documented cases as of Friday.

"More than one in every four monkeypox cases in this country occur in New York State, and we must use every weapon in our armoury as we respond," Hochul said.

The statement came only a day after the state of New York's commissioner of health labelled monkeypox an "imminent threat to public health."

Canada confirms 803 instances of monkeypox.

As of Sunday, the Public Health Agency of Canada had verified 803 instances of monkeypox in the country.

According to the health department, 367 confirmed cases are from Ontario, 359 from Quebec, 61 from British Columbia, 13 from Alberta, two from Saskatchewan, and one from Yukon.

According to Theresa Tam, Canada's former Chief Public Health Officer, the government has deployed approximately 70,000 doses of Imvamune vaccinations and is actively working with jurisdictions to manage public health reactions.

The current epidemic has been labelled a public health emergency of worldwide concern by the World Health Organization.

The first monkeypox sufferer in India has recovered.

The first monkeypox patient in India, discovered more than two weeks ago, recovered and tested negative on Saturday, according to Kerala's health minister, Veena George.

"Every sample was negative twice." The patient is in good physical and mental health. The skin lumps have been entirely removed. "He will be released today," the minister said, according to media sources.

So far, India has documented four cases of monkeypox, three in Kerala and one in the national capital Delhi.

The first incidence was a 35-year-old Kollam district resident who tested positive after coming from the United Arab Emirates. He arrived in the state on July 12 and was hospitalised on July 14 with monkeypox symptoms.
