TASHKENT: The totalitarian government of Uzbekistan said on Monday that Twitter, WeChat, and the famous Russian social network Vkontakte had been unblocked in the Central Asian country.
It also stated that discussions with China's TikTok were still underway. For more than a year, the country of about 35 million people has restricted access to the digital giants, alleging their alleged breach of a local law requiring domestic users' personal data to be maintained in Uzbekistan.
Access to Twitter, WeChat, and Vkontakte (now known as VK) has been "completely reinstated" as of Monday, according to a statement issued on social media by the official communications agency, adding that "blocking only damages progress."
